I HAVE RECIEVED SOME PRIVATE MAIL ON IT, GIVEN A FEW STRONG HINTS TO THOSE THAT ARE BEING DRIVEN CRAZY TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT !!!!!!!!

Only one big thing is that 1057 was a completed body ready for asembly and this other is only parts. Why would they take it apart if it would be easyer to start over with new parts to start a new car??

The Big Back window #57, still had many necasary panels and work needed before it was completed for paint>>>>>>>>>> It sold at the 1950 auction, where is it??????

THAT goes along with guessing whats the main visible difference is between the big back window car and the Mystery Tucker in the pictures !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the above goes along with the complete story we figured out, thats a whole seperate issue though at this time!!!!!!!

The car in the mystery photo is a 1979 Ford Fairmont. You can clearly see the Reagan bumper sticker.

I keep looking for hours and hours and still can't find any GM convertible top parts. Also one more point. GM never helped Tucker so why would he use GM parts?? Also most of the parts were from the same company that sold parts to Kaiser Frazer and Willys like the inside and outside door handles, inside door push buttons, door lock mechanisms, and many other parts. I don't think he would like to get parts from the people who work with GM but I may be wrong.

ok, this chassis never had a body when Reinert started. It was just a rusty frame and firewall along with a few parts. He put the car together with parts sold by other Tucker owners. Later he tried to sell this convertible which he started and never had any proof to show it was started at the Tucker factory. After asking for about $1,000,000 he ended up going as low as about $160,000 for this car and still the car did not sell since he was never able to come up with any proof of this car being started at Tucker. Till this day there have not been any proof of this car being started by Tucker or any of his workers. This was never a factory project as of what we know to this day. Body migt have ruste away sitting outside of Chicago?
If anyone here know more about the story would love to hear more about it. Anyone have more photos of this car?

Ahhh, TuckerCar,
Glad you finally jumped in, dam, I thought we blotted out the Reagan bumper sticker and had the Faimont look hidden quite well, alas though, you need to try again, no gummy bear
or door prize.

Tucker;
Preston gathered parts, modified parts and produced parts for the Tucker cars.
There are numerous parts on the Tucker that were, lets say, borrowed from other manufacturer's.
AMC, as well as many others, did the same thing for years before they closed.

Soooo, the olds, pontiac or cadilac conv top parts ( GM ) were just that, borrowed from another make. The white box in the Mystery Tucker has some of the conv parts in it, we even used a magnifying glass to get detail and then looked at the pictures, and the car, to make sure.
YOU are getting close Tucker!!!!!

Latest Hemmings has an asking price of $5,000,000 for the convertible.

Also, as far as I know, production of Tuckers didn't always involve "borrowed parts" as it sometimes involved using the same suppliers that supplied other manufacturers...probably a blessing where restoration of Tuckers is concerned. I believe this to be true of the door handles, as Kaiser-Frazers were assembled almost entirely of sub-contracted parts. The exceptions for Tucker would be the steering wheels (which were "rejects" from Ford's Lincoln Zephyr), those with Cord transmissions, possibly also the tailight lenses (said to be Dodge but I don't know if that means they came off parted-out cars or not), and interior door pushbuttons (apparently also interchangeable with Lincoln Zephyrs). If I recall, the distributor may have been interchangeable with the Hudson sixes, but that again is a case of the same supplier being used.

RE: The convertible top, I don't know what Reinert told John, but I am 99% sure that the last time I was over there Reinert himself told me it was off a '53 Buick. So he never implied (at least to me) that it had any sort of top frame prior to his acquisition. He basically told me he retrofitted it himself.

From everything I have read about this car I would have to agree 100% with TUCKERs last post. I think it was also stated that Reinert traded this car to Benchmark for A car or two and a much smaller amount of cash. It was probably hard to sell as much because of the incomplete state it was in as much as because of the hard to buy story.I dont personaly know any of the parties involved but the whole story is laid out pretty well on this site as well as some bits and pieces elsewhere.

I still say it looks like a really neat car and its too bad about all the b.s. about where it came from.

I also believe it is a very nice car but the asking price is not right for the car. I would say the right price would be around $250,000 since it was made of left over parts from the factory and it is not a 4-door car restouration like all the other cars. 1046 was a true 1948 Tucker body and it sold for about $200,000 due to the incorect frame and front engine. I may be wrong on the asking price.

If that car sells for $250,000 that would probably represent an at least small profit for the owners and they will get their name out there as well. That puts them ahead of the game in the auto customizing business I would think. They can hope for more but at the end of the day a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Even to get anywhere near that price it is only because Tuckers have a great fan base. Most people who restore cars are lucky to get back their investment. We do it as a labor of love knowing full well we are loosing money and time (if we ever sell) but there are more important things than money. For just about every nice old car out there someone lost money fixing it up. Tuckers and other rare cars of interest are sometimes the exception.

#1046 is unique and hard to value because it is considered one of the 50 but has never really been all Tucker. I have to believe the Tuckers that got the really big bucks were exceptional examples meticulously restored. They probably have fewer imperfections and are more complete than when they left the factory or at any other time in their history. I could never own one of those Tuckers because if I own a car I have to drive it sometime. Those are way too nice to ever go down the road. I wouldn’t want to be the one to put the first rock chip in a million dollar car.

This is all just my opinion and I would have no idea how to put a price tag on the convertible but best of luck to them.
